Are You Struggling With Stubborn Fat?
Even when you stay active and eat a balanced diet, some fat simply will not go away. These problem spots are often linked to genetics, hormones, or aging. They can make your stomach look fuller, create bulges around the waist, or make arms, back, and thighs feel out of proportion.
Many patients feel frustrated when they have done everything right but cannot get rid of these areas.
Liposuction is a safe and effective way to remove fat directly and reshape your body. This procedure allows you to finally see the results of your hard work and enjoy a toned shape.
Our Scottsdale plastic surgery experts proudly welcome patients from across the Phoenix area and will help you decide whether this procedure is the right choice for you.
What to Know About Liposuction in Scottsdale
Liposuction is a plastic surgical option that permanently removes unwanted fat from under the skin. It is not a weight-loss surgery. Instead, it is designed for body contouring and is best for patients who are near a healthy weight but have areas that do not respond to diet or exercise.
During liposuction, a thin tube called a cannula is inserted through very small incisions to reach the fat layer beneath the skin. The fat is broken up and removed with suction, which allows the treated area to look flatter and more sculpted.
Dr. Mark uses Smartlipo, which adds an advanced step by melting the fat with a special laser before removing it. This makes the process gentler on the body and encourages the skin to tighten as it heals.
Liposuction can be performed on one area or multiple areas during the same surgery. Many patients choose to have several areas treated together to create a balanced result.

Areas Liposuction Can Treat
Liposuction can target several areas to reduce unwanted fat and create smoother, more balanced contours.
Chin and Neck
Fat around the neck can create the look of a double chin and make the face seem heavier. Liposuction removes this fat through very small openings to improve the angle of the jawline and neck. The treated area appears more defined, and many patients notice that the entire face looks slimmer.
Arms
Excess fat on the upper arms can cause shirts to feel tight and may keep you from wearing sleeveless tops comfortably. Liposuction reduces this fat, leaving the arms more in balance with the rest of the body. The laser heat used during fat removal also helps the skin lie smoothly after healing.
Back
Fat rolls along the bra line or mid-back can be frustrating since they are hard to hide and can show through clothing. Liposuction smooths these bulges so tops, dresses, and bras fit better. Many patients say this area gives them one of the most satisfying improvements, as the change is easy to see in everyday clothing.
Love Handles
Fat along the flanks, sometimes called love handles, can make the waist appear wide and affect how pants fit. Liposuction in this area creates a more defined waistline and a balanced figure. When treated along with the stomach and back in Lipo 360, the entire midsection looks more even from every angle.
Chest
For men, extra fat in the chest can lead to a soft or full appearance that causes embarrassment. Liposuction can reduce this fullness and create a flatter chest. Women can also benefit from chest liposuction to reduce unwanted fat and improve overall proportions.
Stomach
Stubborn belly fat can make clothing uncomfortable and prevent the stomach from looking flat. Smartlipo melts and removes fat from both the upper and lower abdomen to create a more toned look. Many patients combine this with flank treatment to reshape the waistline completely.
Thighs
Fat on the inner or outer thighs can cause chafing or make the legs look unbalanced. Liposuction slims these areas for a more even leg contour. Treating fat around the knees can also improve the appearance of the legs and make pants and skirts fit better.
Lipo 360
Lipo 360 is a complete approach to body contouring that treats the entire midsection in one procedure. This includes the stomach, flanks, and back. Treating all of these areas together creates an even shape from every angle, including the front, sides, and back.
Benefits of Liposuction
Liposuction helps patients in Scottsdale and Phoenix dramatically improve the way their body looks and feel. Some of the key benefits include:
Ideal Candidates
for Liposuction
Liposuction isn’t about losing weight. It’s about refining your shape and removing stubborn areas of fat. You may be a good candidate if you:

Have Localized Fat Deposits
Areas like the abdomen, flanks, chest, or neck that don’t respond to exercise.

Maintain a Stable Weight
Near your ideal body weight with no plans for major changes.

Have Good Skin Elasticity
With good skin elasticity, your skin can tighten naturally after fat removal.

Live a Healthy Lifestyle
Regular exercise and clean eating support long-term results.

Have Realistic Expectations
Liposuction can sculpt and define, but it won’t replace healthy habits.
For anyone looking to slim stubborn areas and enhance natural muscle definition, liposuction can deliver long-lasting, sculpted results.
Take the first step toward a leaner look.
Liposuction Consultation at Our Scottsdale Office
Your consultation with Dr. Mark in our Scottsdale office is focused entirely on your goals and comfort. He will begin by discussing what bothers you most about the areas of stubborn fat, whether it is difficulty with clothing, uneven body proportions, or bulges that do not respond to exercise.
A physical examination is performed to see which areas would benefit most from treatment and to assess your skin quality. He will determine if liposuction alone is the best choice or if combining it with another procedure, such as a tummy tuck or mommy makeover surgery, will give you the most balanced result.
You will have time to talk about your desired outcome, ask questions, and discuss what to expect before, during, and after surgery. By the end of the consultation, you will have a clear, step-by-step treatment plan designed to match your goals.
How to Prepare for Your Liposuction
Proper preparation sets the stage for a smooth procedure and easier recovery. Here’s how to get ready:

Stop Skin Products
Discontinue lotions, self-tanners, oils, or firming creams on treatment areas before surgery so the skin is clean.

Check Your Compression Garment
Try it on before your procedure to make sure it fits well and provides comfortable compression.

Quit Nicotine Use
Stop smoking and using all nicotine products at least four weeks before and after surgery to support blood flow.

Shave if Instructed
You may be asked to gently shave the treatment zone the day before surgery to lower infection risk.

Medication Restrictions
Avoid blood-thinning medications, NSAIDs, and certain herbal supplements as instructed.

Maintain Stable Weight
Stay near your goal weight for several months before surgery to achieve more predictable contouring results.
Feeling prepared helps you approach surgery with more confidence.
Liposuction vs. Tummy Tuck vs. Panniculectomy
There are a variety of procedures that can be confused with liposuction that also treat the abdominal area. Here are the main differences:
Liposuction
Liposuction focuses only on removing fat. It does not tighten muscles or remove extra skin, so it is best for patients who have good skin tone but struggle with stubborn fat in specific areas.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is designed to remove extra skin and tighten loose or separated abdominal muscles. It is often the procedure of choice for people who want a flatter stomach after pregnancy or major weight loss.
Panniculectomy
A panniculectomy removes a large fold of overhanging skin and fat, called a pannus. This is usually done for medical reasons, such as to reduce rashes, pain, or difficulty with hygiene and movement.
Combining Procedures
For some patients, the best outcome comes from combining procedures. Liposuction can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck1 or panniculectomy to remove fat from the flanks or back while also removing skin and tightening muscles.
With personalized liposuction treatment, you can finally achieve the smooth, defined shape you’ve been working toward.
Smartlipo: Advanced Fat Removal Technology
Dr. Mark performs all liposuction procedures using Smartlipo, a laser-assisted technique that melts fat before it is removed. This advanced method allows for smoother fat extraction and greater precision during contouring. By liquefying fat first, Smartlipo reduces trauma to surrounding tissues, limits bleeding, and often shortens recovery time.
The laser energy also helps the skin contract during healing, which can create a more even surface and reduce the risk of loose or uneven skin after surgery. Patients often find that their recovery is more comfortable and that swelling and bruising improve faster compared to traditional liposuction.
Dr. Mark uses Smartlipo because it gives him the control and accuracy needed to create natural results that complement each patient’s body. The technique helps him sculpt with detail and consistency, which is especially valuable when refining areas like the abdomen, flanks, chest, or thighs.
What are the Steps of a Liposuction Procedure?
Liposuction is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, and depending on the number of areas treated, it typically takes one to three hours
Liposuction Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies among patients, but most people follow a similar pattern of healing and return to activities. We offer expert plastic surgery to patients in the Phoenix area, and we look forward to getting you back on your feet.
Day 1
On the first day after surgery, you may feel soreness, tightness, and swelling in the treated areas. Some drainage from the small openings is normal.
Day 3
By the third day, bruising and swelling are usually at their highest. Pain medicine can be used as needed. You may notice that it becomes easier to move around.
Day 7
Around the one-week mark, swelling starts to go down and discomfort improves. Stitches may dissolve or be removed. Many patients are able to return to light activity at this stage.
Week 2
By two weeks, bruising is mostly gone, and your new shape is starting to become visible. You may be cleared to resume light exercises, like walking.
Months 1-3
During the first three months, swelling continues to improve. The skin adjusts to the new contours, firmness improves, and the overall shape becomes more defined.
Months 4-6
Between the fourth and the sixth months, final results are typically seen. Scars fade, the tissues are fully settled, and most patients are able to resume all normal activities.
