Feeling Self-Conscious About Your Labia?
Some women have large or uneven labia that cause pain, irritation, or embarrassment.
The labia are the folds of skin that surround the vaginal opening, and they come in many shapes and sizes. But when the inner labia extend beyond the outer labia, they can rub against clothing, pinch during exercise, or create self-consciousness during intimacy.
If you’ve ever avoided certain clothes, experienced discomfort when riding a bike or sitting for long periods, or felt embarrassed in intimate situations, labiaplasty may help1.
This procedure carefully removes extra tissue from the labia minora to reduce irritation and help you feel more at ease in your daily life.
What to Know About Labiaplasty in Scottsdale
Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery solution that reshapes the labia minora, the inner lips of the vulva. The surgery focuses on removing excess tissue so the labia no longer protrude or cause discomfort.
It can be performed for both functional and aesthetic reasons to improve comfort while also creating a smoother appearance.
Patients often choose labiaplasty to relieve chafing during activities, improve how clothing fits, and feel more confident in intimate settings.
Dr. Mark tailors each procedure to match the patient’s anatomy and personal goals, and focuses on results that are natural for the body.

How to Prepare for Your Labiaplasty
Taking the right steps before labiaplasty helps create the best conditions for surgery and a more comfortable recovery.

Maintain Skin Health
Wash the area daily with mild, fragrance-free soap in the weeks before surgery to keep skin clean and healthy.

Avoid Irritating Products
Skip powders, sprays, and perfumed wipes that may inflame the skin and make healing more uncomfortable.

Follow Pre-Op Guidelines
Stop blood-thinning medications, fast as instructed, and avoid nicotine for several weeks to promote safe circulation.

Set Up a Comfortable Space
Arrange a clean, quiet area at home with easy access to the bathroom and everything you need nearby.

Plan Hair Removal Early
Shave or wax several days before surgery to allow the skin time to calm and avoid irritation on surgery day.

Treat Any Infections
Address yeast infections, rashes, or open sores ahead of time to minimize bacteria and reduce the risk of complications.

Prepare Recovery Supplies
Stock up on soft cotton underwear, pads for light spotting, and gentle cleansing products for easy, comfortable aftercare.

Arrange Support
Have someone available to drive you home, prepare meals, and assist with basic tasks for the first 24–48 hours.
Start preparing today so you can focus fully on recovery.
What are the Steps Of A Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is typically an outpatient procedure that women across the Phoenix metro area undergo due to its short procedure time, lasting about 1–2 hours. Here’s what the process generally looks like:
The Techniques: Trim vs Wedge
Labiaplasty can be performed with two main techniques2, and Dr. Mark will help choose the one that works best for you.

Trim Technique
In the trim approach, a thin strip of tissue is removed along the edge of the labia minora, creating a straight border. This is a good choice if you want to remove dark or uneven edges or achieve a more uniform shape. Healing is usually straightforward, and the results are very predictable.

Wedge Technique
The wedge technique removes a small V-shaped section of tissue from the thickest part of the labia and then brings the edges together. This keeps the natural border of the labia intact while reducing its size. Many patients prefer this method when they want to maintain their natural edge but just make the area smaller.
Dr. Mark will review before-and-after examples and explain which technique will give you the most aesthetically pleasing result.
Explore Your Options
There are different procedures and techniques that can be done along with this surgery. Our recognized team in Scottsdale will recommend during your consultation which one is the best option for you.
Labiaplasty
Focuses on the outer tissues of the vulva to reshape the labia minora, reduce discomfort and irritation, and improve appearance. It is ideal for patients who want a smaller, smoother contour to the inner lips.
Vaginoplasty
Tightens the vaginal canal and muscles internally. It is often performed after childbirth or aging when the vaginal walls have stretched to restore tone and in some cases improve sexual satisfaction.
Clitoral Hood Reduction
Removes small folds of skin covering the clitoris to make the area less bulky and sometimes to improve comfort or sensitivity. This can be performed on its own or with labiaplasty for a more balanced appearance. Dr. Mark will review whether this procedure may help meet your goals during the consultation.
Labiaplasty Recovery Timeline
Healing happens in stages, and each week brings improvement. Here’s what to expect:
Days 1-3
During the first days of your surgery, the area will feel swollen, sore, and heavy. Mild spotting or light bleeding is normal. You will go home the same day with instructions for rest and care.
Week 1
By the end of the first week, most patients notice significant improvement in soreness and are able to resume light daily activities. Stitches should be kept clean and dry.
Week 2
Around the second week, many stitches begin to dissolve, and the labia start to look closer to their final shape. Discomfort is usually minimal.
Weeks 3-4
During this period, swelling continues to fade and bruising is nearly gone. The area feels much softer, and tenderness becomes mild. Most patients are cleared for light exercise.
Week 6
At six weeks, the incisions are strong and fully healed. Most patients are cleared to resume sexual activity, tampon use, and strenuous workouts.
Month 3
By the third month, final results are typically visible. The swelling is gone, scars have softened and lightened, and the labia feel completely healed.
