Restore Comfort in Your Breasts
If your breast implants no longer look or feel the way you want, or you are experiencing discomfort, you might consider getting a breast implant revision.
Many patients come to our Scottsdale practice with concerns about capsular contracture, implant shifting, rippling, rupture, or a desire to simply have their implants removed. Others want a different breast size or a refreshed look that better matches their body and goals.
Breast implant revision surgery gives you the chance to correct complications, replace implants with new ones, or achieve a natural look without implants.
Dr. Mark customizes every revision breast surgery based on the patient’s anatomy, goals, and overall health, to create a result that restores comfort, confidence, and symmetry.
What to Know About Breast Implant Revision in Scottsdale
Breast implant revision is a highly individualized procedure that focuses on correcting issues from previous breast augmentation or adjusting results to reflect your current preferences.
This procedure may involve implant exchange to replace the current implants with a different size, shape, or material, or implant removal with capsulectomy for patients who no longer want implants.
The goal of breast implant revision is not only to improve appearance, but also to address any complications1 and create a result that feels healthy, balanced, and natural.
If you are ready to improve the look, feel, or comfort of your breasts, breast implant revision can help.
Benefits of Breast Implant Revision
When you choose implant revision surgery, you are doing more than simply removing or replacing implants. Here’s what breast implant revision can offer you:
Ideal Candidates
for Breast Implant Revision
The best candidates for revision surgery have specific concerns with their current implants and realistic expectations about outcomes.

Implant Complications
You have issues like capsular contracture, rupture, implant malposition, or ongoing pain that affects comfort or appearance.

Aesthetic Concerns
You’ve noticed changes in breast shape, symmetry, or projection that were not present after your first surgery.

Desire for Size Change
You want to go larger, smaller, or switch implant types to match your current preferences or lifestyle.

Healthy Enough for Surgery
You are in stable health without conditions that could interfere with safe surgery or delay healing.

Realistic Goals
You understand that revision surgery can be more involved than the initial augmentation and requires patience during recovery.
Many women benefit from breast implant exchange when they experience these common concerns. We will help determine the most appropriate revision approach to achieve your goals safely and effectively.

What to Expect
During a Consultation at Our Scottsdale Office
Your consultation begins with a comprehensive examination of your current implants and breast tissue. Dr. Mark assesses implant position, capsule condition, and any complications that may be present. He’ll discuss your concerns, goals, and medical history to understand what’s driving your interest in revision surgery.
Imaging may be recommended to evaluate implant integrity and the surrounding tissue condition. He explains your revision options, including implant choices, surgical techniques, and expected outcomes. You’ll receive detailed information about the procedure, recovery timeline, and potential risks.
The consultation concludes with a personalized surgical plan designed to address your specific concerns. Our team makes sure our patients in Scottsdale and Phoenix have all the information needed to make an informed decision about their revision surgery.
How to Prepare for Breast Implant Revision
Proper preparation helps ensure the smoothest possible surgical experience and recovery. Follow these guidelines as your surgery date approaches:

Obtain Updated Imaging
Complete any recommended mammograms or MRI scans to assess the current implant condition.

Arrange Extended Support
Organize help for longer than a typical surgery since revision procedures often require more extensive recovery time.

Prepare Recovery Space
Set up a comfortable sleeping area with extra pillows and easy access to necessities, since arm movement may be limited

Review Implant History
Gather information about your current implants, including type, size, manufacturer, and date of original surgery.

Medication Restrictions
Discontinue aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and supplements that increase bleeding risk as directed by Dr. Mark

Plan Transportation
Arrange reliable rides to and from surgery plus follow-up appointments since driving restrictions may last longer.
Following these preparation steps helps create optimal conditions for your revision surgery.
What are the Steps of a Breast Implant Revision Procedure?
Each breast implant revision is unique, but most procedures follow these steps:
Techniques for Breast Implant Revision
Every breast implant revision is tailored to your unique needs. Dr. Mark uses advanced techniques to address concerns while preserving the natural look and feel of the breasts.
En Bloc Capsulectomy
En bloc capsulectomy removes the implant and surrounding capsule as a single unit. This method is often recommended when an implant is ruptured, leaking silicone, or when patients want complete capsule removal for peace of mind.
Total Capsulectomy
A total capsulectomy removes all capsule tissue, but not necessarily in one piece. This is often chosen when the capsule is thickened or is causing pain. It allows the breast to heal without constriction.
Partial Capsulectomy
Partial capsulectomy removes only the problem areas of the capsule while leaving healthy tissue behind. This can reduce risk when a full removal is not necessary.
We will help you decide which approach is best for your aesthetic goals.
Breast Implant Revision Recovery Timeline
Dr. Mark will give you personalized instructions to make sure your healing process is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Day 1
On the day of surgery, you will go home wearing a support bra. Swelling and tightness are normal at this stage, and prescribed pain medication will help keep you comfortable.
Days 2–7
During the first week, swelling and bruising gradually improve. Most patients are able to return to light activity within a few days. Light walking is encouraged to help with circulation.
Weeks 2–3
At the two to three week mark, stitches are removed or dissolve on their own. The breasts begin settling into place, and early results start to show.
Month 1
Healing is more advanced after around one month. If cleared by Dr. Mark, some patients may resume light exercise or additional daily activities.
Weeks 5–6
By the fifth and sixth weeks, most patients are cleared to return to normal activities, including exercise and lifting. Swelling should improve considerably.
Months 3–6
After three to six months, breasts feel softer, scars begin to fade, and the final results are visible. By this stage, healing is complete and results are stable.

Dr. Mark’s Recovery Tips

Related Procedures
Some patients choose to combine breast implant revision with other procedures to create a more complete result that matches their goals.
Breast Lift
Many patients combine implant removal with a breast lift to reshape the breast and create a lifted contour. This is especially helpful if the skin has stretched over time and would otherwise look deflated after removing your implants.
Breast Augmentation
For those who want to replace their implants, breast augmentation after implant exchange can refresh the look of the breasts. Patients may choose a new size, profile, or type of implant to create results that better fit their current lifestyle.
Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation
Some patients choose to replace lost volume with fat transfer rather than implants. This approach uses your own fat, removed with liposuction from areas like the flanks or thighs, to provide a subtle, natural enhancement.
